Connect an OpenAI key for ChatGPT, or use Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Hugging Face, Ollama, or LM Studio. Aether does not force an AI subscription on top of the plugin. The MIDI is Aether's; the model is yours.

Editable MIDI, not a locked render

Every generation is standard MIDI in named layers. Edit it in Aether's piano roll or in your DAW, refine it in the next message, and export a multi-track .mid with one named track per layer, plus tempo and time signature.

Aether installs as an AU, VST3, and Standalone app for macOS and Windows, so it runs inside Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Cubase, Fender Studio Pro (formerly Studio One), Bitwig, and Reaper, or on its own without a DAW.

Does Aether require ChatGPT?

No. Aether by Umbral Audio works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local LLMs. $60 one-time for the VST3, AU, and Standalone plugin. You only pay your AI provider if you use a cloud key.

Do I need ChatGPT Plus?

No. Aether connects to OpenAI with an API key, which is separate from a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription and billed by OpenAI per use. Chat subscriptions from Anthropic and Google do not include API access either. Create a key in your provider's developer console, or skip keys entirely with a local model through Ollama or LM Studio.

Is the ChatGPT output real MIDI?

Yes. Aether writes standard, editable MIDI in named layers and exports multi-track .mid files. The model never hands you a bounced audio clip.
